Stand Up

Posted Date: 17/10/2006

The Millennium Campaign once again urges all peoples from around the world to voice their support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to STAND UP against poverty …

In contrast to last year, when three specific White Band Days were held to show our support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), this year – 2006 – there will be a whole month of actions, from September 16 through October 17. For information specific to your country, please go to www.standagainstpoverty.org/events/find

STAND UP is part of this month of mobilizations and coincides with global actions around the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and the White Band Day, both on October 17. To STAND UP is a concrete action, a symbolic act, for the promotion of the MDGs and demonstrates to policy makers in a very public way the growing global support for the achievement of the MDGs.

STAND UP is put in motion by the Millennium Campaign and aims to set the first- ever official Guinness World Record for the largest number of people to Stand Up Against Poverty and for the MDGs. It will take place between 10:00am (GMT) on October 15 and 10:00am (GMT) on October 16. During this time thousands of people will be standing up all over the world. You can either join existing events or organize your own event. To be counted towards the Guinness World Record and for more general information, please go to www.standagainstpoverty.org . STAND UP brochures and flyers are also available from this web site in three languages. We in the NGO Office in New York would be so happy to hear about your initiatives.

Remember to wear your WHITE BAND throughout this month of mobilization, especially on October 17 !!
