Student Placements at Mater Dei Hospital
VolServ coordinates placements for Sixth Form and University students wishing to complete a specified amount of volunteer hours in the hospital as part of a course, credit or project.
Information Meetings
All students wishing to undergo a placement which is not longer than 25 hours at Mater Dei Hospital need to attend a 2 hour Information meeting (see below for content and dates of meetings).

Roles for Short-term Volunteers
- Keeping company to patients in the Renal Unit
- Telephoning Patients regarding Outpatient and X-Ray appointments
- Guiding patients and relatives in the Main Reception and Outpatient Reception areas.

- The hospital Setting – Scope and attitudes required
- Infection Control & Basic Hygiene
- Communication Skills
- Roles
- Supervision and Point of Reference (Voluntary Services Officer and Heads of Unit)
- Procedures linked to placement - Signing Attendance Sheets, Badges and Exit forms prior to ending placement
- Time-Table
Information Meeting November 2009
The next Information Meeting for students wishing to carry out their SOK placement with VolServ, will be held on Thursday 5th November 2009 at 16.00 at Mater Dei Hospital.
